Taxi Driver

Lead

  • Scene: For your audition, can you please send a 1-2 minute clip of your reaction if you were a cab driver who really needs a great rating, but realizes your seemingly normal passenger has thrown up, with some of the juice falling on the back of your neck. You may take the rest of the time to add your own liberties to this role in how you repair the situation! Although the piece requires no dialogue, you may use simple words and phrases like “okay, oh, or mmhm, yes, no etc.”

A down-on-his-luck young cab driver, father energy, just trying to make ends meet very, VERY peacefully. Expressive with his face and body without needing dialogue. Requires action, running, and throwing objects. Actors with improv backgrounds should be encouraged to submit! Requires holding the steering wheel for the majority of the day, being in a smoky car, and simulated driving, and being in a moving vehicle for long periods of time

Dog Lady

An older IT woman with a youthful spirit, especially thanks to her botox. She knows her way around a stiletto and doesn’t shy from the finer things. She gently parents her puppies, who she brings anywhere because she never takes no for an answer. Think off duty Anna Wintour, Samantha Jones. Must be comfortable around small dog, wearing stilettos (you will primarily be seated
however), and comfort around aerosols as you will be performing spraying perfume.

Emo Bride

A young abandoned bride experiencing all stages of grief within the car. She eats a plate of cake while crying. She wipes her snot on the seat, hits her bouquet against the car, and drinks small bottles of alcohol until she eventually throws up. This role requires comfort with eating

A pregnant masc woman who loves her partner, is confident in her expression, and has no internalized shame over the world’s perspective of body confidence. She goes into labor while in the taxi. She grabs the shoulder of the taxi driver and squeezes tightly. Her feet push on the back of his chair as she screams and takes up many yoga positions in the car to alleviate her pain. This role requires comfortability with body (dance, yoga, etc.) as character must perform varying positions in the car

A youthful, over the top social media personality and tiktoker with ample bracelets, purse fuzzies, and charms. They are most likely a Leo sun, leo rising, leo moon (as they never forget to tell people), and carries around a large ring light for their social media career. They have a photoshoot in the car while the taxi is driving and practices tiktok dances. This role requires comfortability with body (dance, yoga, etc.) as character must perform varying positions in the car

Businessman

You take out your briefcase, which contains cocaine, and prepare to snort it. You snort some, sneeze, accidentally toppling the briefcase over into the cab driver’s car. Take the rest of the time to add your own liberties to this role in how you would repair this situation! Although the piece requires no dialogue, you may use simple words and phrases like “okay, oh, or mmhm, aye, no, ugh, etc.

A serious straight laced business man who is really internally stressed, fast paced, and unaware of his surroundings due to his
 tunnel vision. He does cocaine in the taxi while on a phone call and accidentally drops the pile in the car.

Clown

A lackluster man who is a clown to make money. He is on his way to yet another kid’s birthday party. He does his clown make up, blows up balloons with an airpump and fills the front of the car with them. He practices his party tricks, from playing cards to fake chickens, distracting the cab driver as his trinkets fly around the car.
